"GARY McFARLAND was one of the more significant contributors to orchestral jazz during the 1960s. He distinguished himself as a witty composer, vibrant arranger, communicative vibes player and, later, a premiere producer. This "adult prodigy," as critic Gene Lees called him, came to music rather late in life and was only recorded during an all-too brief decade. But McFarland was an ingenious composer whose variety of musical moods revealed shades of complex emotional subtlety and clever childlike simplicity. "

"What shall I play this time? I thought…I rummaged through my much loved collection, pulling out this and that, putting this and that back again. I discovered lots of new music - sounds that remind me of the mystery and magic, making things less manic, sounds that nod the head, tap the finger. Expect beautiful harmonic voices, electronic vibes, beats and a few delayed guitars maybe, not sure, we’ll see. Definitely some crazy samples though!" Leon.

Matthew Morgan - Brit Jazz Pt.1

Matthew Morgan - Brit Jazz Pt.1

Wednesday February 24th - 4:00pm

"Over the last few months, I have gone on an intrepid journey to the far reaches of my record collection. Now I have returned with some of the finest, and in some cases obscure, jazz records made in Britain from the late 60s to the early 80s.
Unexpected, beautiful and sometimes challenging this mix blends together some of the acknowledged greats of British jazz with some less well known, but no less talented, practitioners.
Three years ago, I was lucky enough to be able to record an Out of the Wood radio show of British jazz. Much has changed since then but music remains the healing force of the universe.
Complied and mixed with my usual combination of love, luck and ineptitude." MM
